Patrick Brothers works at the intersection of strategy, policy and technology, serving on boards, advising public and private sector institutions, and advancing research on frontier technology and national capability. His focus today spans Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas, from emerging technology companies and investors to public research institutions and governments.
Patrick began his career as an army officer in Australia’s Parachute Regiment, and went on to serve as a senior executive at Deloitte and several multinational public companies in strategy, M&A and infrastructure finance. His work has centred on the impact economy, across education, healthcare, infrastructure and energy, and over seven years he founded, led, scaled and then sold HolonIQ, a New York-based global data platform serving governments, institutions, firms and investors around the world. More recently he has taken up a Transformational Leadership Fellowship at Oxford University’s Blavatnik School of Government, founded the Global Institute for National Capability and serves on boards in Africa, Australia and the United Kingdom.
Over the last two decades, Patrick has advised leading global institutions, ranging from international bodies such as the World Bank, United Nations, OECD and World Economic Forum, to technology giants including Apple, AWS, Google, Microsoft, Baidu and Tencent. He has advised global investors including BlackRock, Blackstone, Goldman Sachs and Temasek, as well as purpose-driven brands such as Coursera, Duolingo, Lego and Lonely Planet.
Beyond his formal career, Patrick has coached and mentored high-performance athletes and expedition teams, helping more than ten groups achieve world-record accomplishments. He supported the first mother-and-daughter ascent of Mount Everest and the Seven Summits, the fastest circumnavigation of the globe by helicopter, and the longest trans-ocean kayak crossing, featuring in books and documentaries on several of these expeditions.
Patrick holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science and mathematics from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), an MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management, and graduated first place in field leadership and military skills from the Royal Military College, Duntroon.
